 ccording to oral tradition, the village of Melinci was named after the mills. Today, the village is famous for brick manufacturing. Bricks are made and fired by hand. A long time ago, the inhabitants of Melinci realised that the village is surrounded by soil which has proven to be a quality building material. They manufactured the brick for their own use and for sale.
In the Ciglarsko naselje (brick manufacturing settlement), a permanent brick manufacturing exhibition is displayed. TD (tourist association) Brod Melinci is preserving the tradition of brick manufacturing and firing by organising a yearly event entitled Ciglarski dnevi (Brick Manufacturing Days). The interesting tourist offering by the river Mura is enriched by a ferry with a new berth which enables travel up and down the river in an old-fashioned way.
Melinci and its surroundings are interesting for cycling, walking by the river, boating and fishing.
